Job Summary:
We are seeking a seasoned and proactive Import Manager to lead our international procurement and logistics operations in the PU chemical industry. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in managing end-to-end import procedures, with in-depth experience working with shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs clearance agents. This role focuses on operational execution and regulatory compliance to ensure the timely, safe, and cost-effective import of raw materials. All import-related accounting will be managed separately by the Finance team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage complete import cycle – from purchase order initiation to delivery at the warehouse, ensuring smooth, timely, and compliant operations.
- Coordinate with international suppliers, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and customs clearance agents to handle logistics and documentation efficiently.
- Review and verify all import documentation, including Bill of Lading, commercial invoice, packing list, Certificate of Origin, MSDS, and other relevant documents.
- Monitor and manage regulatory requirements, including HS codes, SROs, duty/tax structures, and import licenses specific to PU chemicals.
- Supervise and ensure customs clearance processes such as GD filing and liaising with clearing agents for timely clearance.
- Collaborate with internal departments (procurement, warehouse, QA/QC) for inbound planning, storage readiness, and compliance.
- Track shipment status and lead logistics planning to mitigate delays and optimize delivery timelines.
- Maintain strong working relationships with external stakeholders, including suppliers, port authorities, regulatory bodies, and inspection agencies.
- Ensure compliance with import regulations, hazardous materials handling protocols, and international trade requirements.
- Report regularly on shipment status, lead times, import costs, and supplier performance to the Commercial Head.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve the import process for cost efficiency and risk reduction.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing import operations, preferably in the chemical or PU raw material industry.
- Solid knowledge of international trade laws, customs procedures, DG cargo handling, and shipping documentation.
- Proven experience dealing with regulatory authorities, including customs, port authorities, and environmental safety agencies.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple shipments simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency in MS Office, ERP systems (e.g., SAP or Odoo), and import tracking tools.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with PU chemical imports and familiarity with the chemical regulatory environment.
- Exposure to global supplier sourcing and compliance in hazardous materials handling.
