Shipbuilding Technical Assistant

About the Role
We are hiring a Shipbuilding Technical Assistant for one of our clients to support on-site ship construction activities in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. You will act as the key technical interface between engineering and the shipyard, ensuring work is delivered according to technical specifications, quality standards, and project timelines. You will be permanently based at the shipyard, monitoring progress, coordinating stakeholders, and supporting daily construction activities, including technical clarification, quality control, and issue resolution. The role also includes support during commissioning and sea trials, requiring close collaboration with multicultural teams and clear communication in both English and Spanish.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Management:
Ensure compliance with technical specifications, contractual requirements, timelines, and quality standards
Monitor project KPIs and report deviations related to cost, quality, planning, and client satisfaction
Act as the main on-site technical representative between the engineering organization and the shipyard
Participate in client and internal coordination meetings and prepare detailed progress reports and meeting minutes
Coordinate between engineering, logistics, manufacturing, and project management teams
Identify improvement opportunities and propose corrective and preventive actions
Support risk identification and mitigation activities throughout the project lifecycle
Construction & Site Support:
Collect, review, and validate technical inputs such as drawings, industrialization files, kitting lists, schedules, and technical instructions
Identify missing or inconsistent technical data and coordinate corrections
Translate technical documentation between English and Spanish when required
Ensure shipyard teams understand and correctly apply technical instructions
Provide daily on-site support during construction and commissioning phases
Monitor build progress, ensuring compliance with drawings, procedures, and specifications
Conduct inspections and quality checks to ensure standards are met
Identify non-conformities and follow up corrective actions with relevant stakeholders
Provide technical guidance to the shipyard construction teams
Support commissioning, sea trials, and delivery activities
Verify proper handling, storage, and installation of delivered components
Reporting & Compliance:
Provide weekly progress reports to internal management
Escalate significant deviations in cost, schedule, or quality with proposed corrective actions
Ensure compliance with internal quality, safety, and environmental management systems
Maintain clear communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders
Profile & Requirements
Approximately 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, industrial construction, or a related technical field
Experience working in an on-site industrial or shipyard environment with high operational pressure and strict delivery timelines
Strong understanding of shipbuilding processes and disciplines
Experience with technical drawings, industrial documentation, and manufacturing workflows
Familiarity with project management principles and tools (planning, monitoring, reporting)
Proficiency in office tools and ERP-type systems
Strong coordination and communication skills in a multicultural environment
Ability to work across engineering, production, and client interfaces
Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities
Comfortable working in a site-based, hands-on environment
Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and priorities simultaneously
Fluent in English and Spanish, French knowledge appreciated
