Drone Systems Engineer – Test & Operations – NorAero
Build. Test. Fly. Repeat.
Become a Drone Systems Engineer at NorAero: work with drone solutions from idea to field, in an international environment. Take ownership and contribute from day one.
NorAero develops next-generation aviation systems with proprietary rotor technology. Operating within military, transport and health sectors, the company is now at a critical stage where technology moves from prototype to operational reality. That means growth, high pace and the opportunity to help shape something from the ground up.
The test centre is based in Tønsberg. The development environment is international, with a test facility in Australia and an engineering environment in Spain. Expect around 4 weeks of international travel per year, with the option for more if you want it.
This is not a desk job.
About the role
As Drone Systems Engineer you report directly to the CTO and are a core part of the team. You will be involved across the full journey – from developing and building systems, to field testing and solving problems when things don't go as planned. The role is broad and will grow with the company.
What you will do
Develop and build drone systems – from idea to finished platform (up to 4x2 metres)
Conduct and support test flights in Tønsberg and internationally
Troubleshoot across electronics, mechanics and autopilot software
Analyse test results and translate findings into concrete improvements
Contribute actively to the development process – not just execute, but improve
Collaborate with engineering teams in Norway, Australia and Spain
Who we are looking for
Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field, preferably from NTNU or equivalent
2–5 years of relevant experience, e.g. from drone/UAV, defence, automotive/motorsport, robotics or embedded systems
Structured, self-driven and solution-oriented
Comfortable working in the field – not just in front of a screen
Strong English skills – Norwegian is an advantage
You troubleshoot and test until things work – and take ownership of what you start. You don't need to know everything – but you need to be the kind of person who figures it out.
Why NorAero
Be part of the full process – development, testing and operational deployment
International environment with locations in Norway, Australia and Spain
Low bureaucracy, high pace and real responsibility from day one
Flexible working hours and strong opportunities for professional growth
Close collaboration with the CTO in a company on a strong growth trajectory
