About the Role:
The Turbine Aerodynamics Engineer will be a key member of the Turbine Aerodynamics Group, responsible for the aerodynamic design and analysis of gas turbines. This includes the preliminary and detailed definition of flow paths and airfoils, as well as the design of turbine exhaust diffusers and collectors. The engineer will also participate in qualification test planning and execution to validate design performance.
This role requires close collaboration with Mechanical Design, Heat Transfer, and Performance teams to ensure designs meet program objectives for manufacturability, cost, durability, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze turbine aerodynamics, including flow path and airfoil optimization.
- Lead or support development of turbine exhaust diffusers and collectors.
- Plan and execute qualification tests for aerodynamic performance validation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure aerodynamic designs meet all program requirements.
- Apply advanced analytical methods, including 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D aerodynamic modeling.
- Contribute to process improvement through automation and coding of design workflows.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering or mechanical engineering.
- Several years of experience in gas turbine aerodynamics.
- Hands-on experience with 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D aerodynamic design tools and methods.
- Proficiency in coding with Python, C, or C++ (or similar tools).
Preferred:
- Advanced degree (master’s or PhD) in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
- In-depth experience in gas turbine aerodynamic design.
- Knowledge of cooled and uncooled turbine blade/nozzle technologies.
- Experience with automation of CFD pre-/post-processing.
- Familiarity with ANSYS CFX, STAR-CCM+, and geometry creation tools such as Creo.
