Role Overview:
We are seeking multiple experienced and dedicated Protection & Control (P&C) Field Testing and Commissioning Engineers to support high-voltage substation projects across the transmission, distribution, and generation environments nationwide.
This role is ideal for highly skilled professionals with a proven track record of heavy travel experience and deep expertise in the hands-on testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of complex protective relay equipment on high-voltage substations. This is a critical field position requiring up to 80% domestic travel.
Key Responsibilities:
The P&C Field Testing Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle testing and commissioning of substation P&C systems, ensuring safe and reliable operation.
- P&C System Testing: Perform comprehensive testing and commissioning of Protection & Control systems on high-voltage substations (ranging from 15 kV to 500 kV).
- Protective Relay Expertise: Conduct detailed, hands-on protective relay testing using specialized equipment, including Omicron CMC 256/356 or Doble F6150.
- Device Proficiency: Test, configure, and troubleshoot a wide range of relays, including, but not limited to: SEL-311L, SEL-387, SEL-487, SEL-421, SEL-351S, GE L90, GE D60, and similar families (SEL, GE, Basler, Beckwith).
- Commissioning: Execute control scheme testing, current transformer (CT) and potential transformer (PT) circuit verification, relay calibration, and static/dynamic testing.
- Documentation & Reporting: Accurately record all test data and produce formal field reports, project documentation, timecards, and expense reports.
- Safety & Compliance: Complete Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and strictly adhere to all client, company, and industry safety requirements, ensuring compliance with NETA, IEEE, NFPA, and other applicable standards.
- Technical Support: Read, interpret, and troubleshoot using complex electrical drawings, schematics, and logic diagrams to resolve issues and support Project Leads and Field Supervisors.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of direct, hands-on experience in electrical field testing of high-voltage substations, including testing of breakers, transformers, and full P&C systems.
- Relay Testing Mastery: Demonstrated proficiency in protective relay testing using industry-standard test sets (specifically Omicron or Doble).
- Software Skills: Working knowledge of protective relay testing software, such as ProTesT, Protection Suite, ENOSERV RTS, Omicron Test Universe, or AcSELerator.
- Technical Breadth: Working knowledge across high-voltage projects, specifically those ranging from 15 kV up to 500 kV.
- Mobility: Must be able and willing to travel up to 80% of the time, often on short notice, to project sites nationwide.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration with field and engineering teams.
