Position Title: In-Charge – Cost Accounting

Qualifications & Experience
CA / ICWA (CMA) / MBA (Finance) – Mandatory
8–12 years of relevant experience in cost accounting, preferably in a manufacturing environment
Hands-on experience in audits, CAPEX analysis, and cost control initiatives
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of Cost Accounting, Inventory Valuation (AS-2), and MIS
Expertise in MHR calculation, variance analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to work closely with production, procurement, engineering, and sales teams
Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/etc.) and MS Excel
Role Objective
The In-Charge – Cost Accounting will be responsible for end-to-end costing, inventory valuation, margin analysis, budgeting, MIS, and cost control activities. The role ensures accurate product costing, validation of cost savings, compliance with accounting standards (AS-2), and supports management decision-making through robust financial analysis and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Costing & Product Pricing
Preparation and maintenance of product cost sheets for all finished goods, WIP, and job work.
Overall costing of products including material, labor, overheads, and machine hour rates.
Preparation and validation of quotations based on accurate costing and margin expectations.
Job work costing and evaluation of job work rates for internal and external processes.
Validation of various cost parameters impacting product cost and profitability
2. Inventory Valuation & Control
Periodic inventory valuation (monthly/quarterly/yearly) in compliance with AS-2.
Monitoring and valuation of Raw Material, WIP, Finished Goods, Scrap, and Stores.
Conducting physical inventory verification, reconciliation with books, and impact analysis.
Analysis of inventory ageing, slow-moving, obsolete, and non-moving items.
3. Variance Analysis & Performance Monitoring
Preparation of standard cost vs actual cost variance reports (material, labor, overhead).
Analysis of variances and identification of reasons with corrective action recommendations.
Preparation of standard and actual Machine Hour Rates (MHR).
Monitoring operational efficiency through variance and trend analysis.
4. Cost Control & Cost Savings
Implementation and monitoring of cost control mechanisms across operations.
Preparation of monthly cost saving validation reports.
Validation of cost saving projects initiated by operations, engineering, or procurement teams
Tracking actual benefits versus projected savings and reporting deviations
5. CAPEX & Investment Analysis
Preparation of CAPEX proposals with detailed cost-benefit analysis.
Validation of CAPEX assumptions, projected savings, and payback periods.
Post-implementation review of CAPEX to assess actual vs planned benefits.
6. MIS, Budgeting & Forecasting
Preparation of cost MIS reports for management review on a periodic basis.
Support in budget preparation, monitoring, and variance analysis.
Preparation of financial projections, cost forecasts, and profitability analysis.
Customer-wise, product-wise, and segment-wise margin and profitability analysis.
7. Credit / Debit Notes & Financial Validation
Review and validation of credit notes and debit notes to ensure accuracy and relevance.
Ensuring proper cost impact accounting and documentation.
Coordination with sales, commercial, and accounts teams for resolution of discrepancies
8. Audit & Compliance
Preparation of working papers and schedules for Internal Audit and Statutory Audit.
Ensuring compliance with SOPs, internal controls, and accounting standards.
Supporting auditors with cost records, reconciliations, and explanations.
9. SOPs & Process Improvement
Ensuring adherence to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to costing and inventory.
Identifying gaps in costing processes and implementing improvements.
Supporting cross-functional teams in process optimization and cost efficiency initiatives.
