Staff Backend Engineer (Node.js / TypeScript)

Compensation: $200,000 - $240,000 + Equity + Benefits

What You'll Do
Design and build highly scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.
Lead the evolution of container-based infrastructure running on AWS EKS (Kubernetes).
Drive monolith-to-microservices migration initiatives while maintaining production stability.
Architect backend systems supporting high-volume consumer transactions and marketplace functionality.
Collaborate closely with Product, Frontend, DevOps, and Infrastructure teams on end-to-end feature delivery.
Improve platform scalability, reliability, observability, and system performance.
Build new backend services supporting expansion into additional marketplace categories.
Utilize modern AI-assisted development tools and internal engineering workflows to improve development efficiency.
Mentor engineers and contribute to technical strategy and architectural decisions.
Required Qualifications
8+ years of backend software engineering experience.
Strong professional experience with Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL.
Experience designing and operating large-scale distributed systems.
Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services and Kubernetes/EKS.
Experience migrating or building microservices within containerized environments.
Background building consumer-facing products, online marketplaces, eCommerce platforms, gaming platforms, or other high-traffic transactional systems.
Strong system design skills with experience leading architecture decisions.
Comfortable working in fast-paced startup or growth-stage environments with significant ownership.
Experience using AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies as part of the development workflow.
Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Experience
Marketplace or eCommerce platform experience.
Redis, Docker, Terraform, BullMQ, Datadog, Sentry, LaunchDarkly, or Stripe.
Experience scaling platforms processing millions or billions of transactions.
Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
