About the Role:
We are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator (L2) to join our Database Services team in Bucharest, Romania. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, administration, monitoring, optimization, and support of Microsoft SQL Server environments. This role requires expertise in database performance tuning, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, and production support.
You will work in a fast-paced enterprise environment, ensuring database availability, reliability, security, and optimal performance while participating in a 24x7 on-call rotation and following ITIL-based operational processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Database Administration
Install, configure, upgrade, migrate, and patch Microsoft SQL Server databases.
Perform database setup, cloning, cleanup, and decommissioning.
Create and maintain database objects, schemas, users, roles, and permissions.
Configure and maintain SQL Server maintenance plans.
Administer production, development, test, and disaster recovery environments.
Maintain database documentation and environment inventory.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
Configure and support:
Always On Availability Groups
Log Shipping
Database Mirroring
Replication
Windows Failover Clustering
Perform backup, restore, and recovery operations.
Execute restoration drills to validate backup integrity.
Maintain disaster recovery and standby environments.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
Monitor database health, sessions, transactions, locks, and system performance.
Analyze execution plans and optimize SQL queries.
Monitor CPU, memory, disk I/O, and storage utilization.
Rebuild and reorganize indexes.
Generate and maintain database statistics.
Identify fragmentation, growth trends, and capacity issues.
Produce regular database health and performance reports.
Database Maintenance
Monitor database instances, alerts, logs, trace files, and scheduled jobs.
Verify database availability and server health.
Monitor replication and backup jobs.
Maintain SSIS and SSRS environments.
Purge database logs and historical data as required.
Incident & Problem Management
Troubleshoot database connectivity and performance issues.
Resolve database incidents within SLA timelines.
Perform root cause analysis for recurring issues.
Participate in maintenance windows and planned activities.
Provide Level 2 technical support and escalation assistance.
Governance & Operations
Follow ITIL-based Incident, Problem, and Change Management processes.
Maintain operational documentation and standard procedures.
Develop shell scripts and automation for database administration tasks.
Coordinate with infrastructure and application teams during deployments and upgrades.
Participate in a 24x7 rotational on-call support schedule.
Required Skills & Experience:
Minimum 4+ years of Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration experience.
Strong knowledge of SQL Server architecture and administration.
Excellent understanding of Windows Server operating systems.
Strong SQL scripting and query optimization skills.
Experience with database installation, upgrades, migrations, patch management, backup and recovery, and performance tuning.
