Product Engineer – AI & Customer Solutions
Build an AI product from the ground up in NYC, partnering with HVAC professionals in the field to turn real-world challenges into tools that work.
Location: New York City, USA
Employment Type: Full-time
Work Arrangement: On-site – 5 days per week
Seniority Level: Early-career / (1-5 Years experience)
Industry: AI / SaaS / Home Services Technology
Work Authorization: US citizens and Green Card holders only
About the Role
Sperton is looking for a hands-on Founding Product Engineer to join an ambitious, early-stage AI technology company transforming the home services industry, starting with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC).
You will help build the product end to end while working directly with technicians, business owners, and customers to understand their everyday challenges and translate real-world feedback into effective technical solutions. The role combines software engineering with customer onboarding and product development. You will spend time with HVAC technicians and other home service professionals in the field, observe how they use the product, train users, and bring those insights back to the engineering team.
What You'll Do
Build and develop the product end to end, from technical architecture to production-ready features.
Make key engineering decisions that support scalability, maintainability, and a strong user experience.
Work directly with HVAC technicians, plumbers, business owners, and other home services professionals.
Visit customers and join technicians in the field to understand their workflows and observe real-world product usage.
Train, onboard, and support non-technical users to help them adopt the product successfully.
Translate unstructured customer feedback and operational challenges into clear product requirements and technical solutions.
Represent the company at conferences and industry events, building relationships with potential customers.
Help communicate the product's value and support in-person business development activities.
What We're Looking For
Strong software engineering skills and the ability to design sound technical architectures.
Good product sense and the ability to translate ambiguous customer feedback into practical features.
The confidence to explain the product's value and represent the company in customer conversations.
Experience working in a startup environment, preferably at an early-stage company or during a zero-to-one product journey.
The ability to take ownership of technical decisions and deliver complete solutions.
A strong work ethic, a proactive mindset, and a focus on outcomes rather than simply hours worked.
Genuine interest in understanding users and solving real-world problems beyond writing code.
