Role Overview
We are hiring a Senior Hardware Development Engineer - (R&D) to join our client's R&D hardware development team in Västerås. In this senior role, you will take technical ownership of complex hardware development initiatives, lead other engineers, and act as a key technical advisor to management and stakeholders. The role spans the full hardware lifecycle from requirements and design to prototyping, verification, and continuous improvement while ensuring delivery against cost, quality, and time targets. You will work closely with suppliers, development partners, and cross-functional teams to drive innovation and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
Lead and contribute to new hardware development projects based on internal requirements and specifications
Manage requirements, hardware design, design reviews, prototype builds, and functional verification
Ensure both functional and non-functional requirements (cost, quality, time) are met
Act as technical lead, guiding and coordinating other engineers
Define specifications for upcoming hardware features and maintain existing products to latest standards
Lead problem-solving and root cause analysis activities
Collaborate closely with suppliers and development partners
Support hardware project leads with resource and time planning
Represent the hardware development team in cross-functional topics
Drive improvements in processes, methods, and best practices
Contribute to increased operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
Who You Are
At least 6 years of experience in relevant hardware development, including leadership/coordination responsibilities
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Design, or related technical field (Master’s is a plus), or another technical degree with 15+ years of relevant experience
Hands-on experience with lab measurements and hardware verification
Experience working with Agile and Waterfall development methods
Familiarity with tools such as Jira, MS Project, and DevOps
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Detail-oriented, analytical, and solution-focused mindset
English – fluent (mandatory) and Swedish language skills (advantageous)
Holds a valid SSG-Entré certificate
Previous experience from power transmission or distribution business is a plus.
Strong background in one or more of the following areas:
Analog and digital (high-speed) design
PCB-A design and manufacturing
EMC/EMF design
Power supply design
Measurement circuitry
Embedded hardware design, including FPGA
