Engineering Superintendent – Mining
Join a pioneering mining team as an Engineering Superintendent—lead open-pit and future underground operations, optimize mine planning, and ensure safe, efficient gold production in Guyana.

Scope: Full Time (Flexible rotation schedule)
Role Overview
We are hiring for one of our clients an Engineering Superintendent to join a new gold discovery project in northwest Guyana. Reporting to the Mine Manager, you will oversee all technical aspects of open-pit and future underground mining operations, provide input into design and development from start-up through full-scale operations, manage mine planning, optimization, and engineering functions, and ensure production efficiency, compliance, and resource utilization.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage the engineering team to support open-pit and future underground operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with best practices.
- Oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of mine infrastructure, including haul roads, tailings storage facilities, ventilation systems, dewatering systems, and power distribution.
- Oversee the Geotechnical department to ensure safe pit slopes and implement pit slope monitoring programs.
- Oversee the Surveying team.
- Implement and monitor engineering standards, aligning with company policies, Guyanese regulations, and global benchmarks.
- Develop and manage capital and operational budgets for the engineering department, providing key inputs for Mine Operations, Mine Maintenance, and Geology.
- Collaborate with Mine Operations, Geology, Mine Maintenance, and Processing teams to optimize mine and processing operations.
- Lead and support a Mine Planning team in planning, scheduling, and equipment scheduling to maximize productivity and NPV.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in engineering practices and mine sequencing for operational efficiencies.
- Ensure the integration of new technologies and automation solutions to enhance engineering processes.
- Support environmental and sustainability initiatives, ensuring compliance with permitting and best practices.
- Mentor and develop engineering personnel, fostering professional growth.
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and consultants for quality and timely project execution.
- Provide top-level assistance and recommendations to the Mine Manager on engineering strategy and budget execution.
- Recruit, train, and mentor engineering team members to build a high-performance culture.
- Provide clear work objectives, performance expectations, and conduct reviews with feedback and coaching.
- Oversee consultants and contractors on engineering projects.
- Ensure compliance with engineering codes, regulations, and environmental safety practices.
- Maintain a cooperative interest in health, safety, and environmental best practices.
- Follow operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Observe, correct, and report unsafe conditions.
- Provide safety leadership and promote a zero-harm work environment.
- Ensure all work areas comply with health and safety policies.
- Intervene when necessary to maintain workplace safety.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- 8-12 years of mining operation and engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role.
- Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer (e.g., Registered Professional Engineer of Ontario or equivalent).
- Proficiency in mining software such as Deswik, MineSight, Surpac, or Civil 3D Suite.
- Experience with mine ventilation, dewatering, and power distribution systems.
- Knowledge of the Mining Act related to mine operations.
- Strong leadership, supervision, and strategic planning capabilities.
- Knowledge of a language other than French (for international communication).
- Previous experience in Greenfield mining project development and operational ramp-up.
- Experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical practices and surveying oversight.
- Familiarity with environmental and sustainability initiatives in mining.
